Telecom Services

Network Build Survey

Emergi-safe and its partners conduct detailed network surveys including intrusive surveys where we Test Rod & Rope (TTR). This step is essential for good planning which in turn ensures the implementation of a high-quality network and ensures efficiencies in the build.

Civils & Construction

Our engineers build telecom infrastructures for major ISPs (Internet Service Providers) across the UK, using highly skilled civil engineers we can lay ducting, build telecom chambers, directional drilling and carry out reinstatement.

Blown Fibre

We provide fibre blowing teams installing high fibre count cables including customer drop fibre. All installed sub/micro duct tubing is tested and commissioned before handover to our clients. We also install internal Micro-duct inside commercial buildings, meeting the global WiredScore certification.

Fibre Build

We build the network by preparing fibre joints and terminations to the highest of standards, install splitters and splicing both ribbon and single fibre cables. All fibre is commissioned in line with the manufacturer’s specifications and the clients design manual.

Emergency lighting design is the process to determine if emergency luminaires and exit signage are required within a premises, where they should be located and ensuring through lighting calculations that the required light levels will be achieved.

Emergency lighting is a legal requirement in almost all buildings except for dwellings in the UK. The 2 Key documents making emergency lighting a necessity are:

• The Regulatory Reform (fire Safety) Order 2005 (or RRO) mandate that the “Responsible Person” should ensure that:
• Emergency exits and routes are indicated by signs, and
• Emergency exits and routes requiring illumination are provided with emergency lighting of adequate intensity in the case of failure to their normal lighting, and
• Emergency lighting is subject to a suitable system of maintenance.
• Building Regulations 2010 Fire Safety Approved Document B. This document also mandates the use of escape lighting in almost all buildings and situations except for private residential premises. This document also states that escape lighting must comply with BS 5266-1

Consultation and Risk Assessment / Survey

At the early stages of any design should be a consultation, and this should involve the building owner, developer, architect, contractors and the responsible person. The purpose of this consultation is to determine the following:

• Should the building be designed for immediate evacuation in the event of an emergency, or if a “Stay Put” strategy will be more suitable.
• How the different areas of the building are to be used. Offices, WC’s, workshop, plant room etc
• How many occupants are expected to be in the building at any one time.
• The number and location of escape routes

With this information an on-site survey/risk assessment should be carried out to determine any risks associated with tasks being carried out in various areas of the building and what measures are to be taken to mitigate them.

Points Of Emphasis (POE)

POE generally require a higher illuminance level compared to an open area or an escape route. These areas should be identified at the point of survey and illuminated according to BS 5266-1 Clause 5.2.8.1 as detailed below. Emergi-Safe will always accommodate POE requirements as part of our design.

BS 5266-1:2016

5.2.8.1 General

Siting and illuminance levels of emergency escape lighting luminaires should be in accordance with BS EN 1838.

Emergency escape lighting should be provided in escape routes, open areas, high risk task areas, and points of emphasis including:

1. near (see Note 1) each exit door intended to be used in an emergency;
2. near (see Note 1) stairs so that each flight of stairs receives direct light;
3. near (see Note 1) any other change in level;
4. externally illuminated escape route signs, escape route direction signs and other safety signs needing to be illuminated under emergency lighting conditions;
5. at each change of direction (see Note 2);
6. at each intersection of corridors (see Note 2);
7. near (see Note 1) to each final exit and outside the building to a place of safety;
8. near (see Note 1) each first aid point;
9. near (see Note 1) each piece of fire-fighting equipment and call point;
10. near (see Note 1) escape equipment provided for disabled people;
11. near (see Note 1) refuges and call points, including two-way communication systems and disabled toilet alarm call positions;
12. near (see Note 1) manual release controls provided to release electronically locked doors as recommended in BS 7273-4.

NOTE 1 For the purpose of this subclause, “near” is normally considered to be within 2m measured horizontally.

NOTE 2 For the purpose of this subclause, “at” means that the emergency luminaire would illuminate in both directions at the change of direction or Intersection.

Lighting has physical and biological effects that can have an impact on the health and wellbeing of humans. Good lighting design can biologically help stabilise your circadian rhythm, helping improve your overall mood and can even aid a good night’s sleep. From a psychological point of view, good lighting can help reduce depression and even increase cognitive performance.

This point is primarily for the working environment, but a home office could benefit also. Poor lighting reduces productivity in the workplace, while good lighting will increase productivity.

Utilising human centric lighting

By adjusting lux levels and intensity of lighting throughout the day and, utilising human centric lighting that mimics the circadian rhythm, there are also energy savings that can be made to account for the natural light that already contributes to the luminance of the environment. With data included, predictive maintenance and the retrofittable aspect of Building Asset360 this solution would also contribute towards buildings WELL or BREAM standards for wellbeing and sustainability.

This also helps building owners commercially as it allows them to set rental rates higher and will benefit from more sort after property thanks to their sustainability ratings and the wellbeing affects the building provides to the occupants.

Tridonic’s latest driver technology in Gen4, are now complete with Tunable White and Human Centric Lighting empowering our clients’ luminaires to change lux levels and temperature ranges in order to generate the desired environment.

Lighting temperature, intensity and brightness are influential metrics on the health and wellbeing of people utilising the different spaces within a building.

With this level of control, lighting solutions can be utilised to optimise the different environments to create desired outcomes and evoke specific emotions in users for example, cool white lighting experience will help increase concentration and promoting increased productivity throughout the working day and in preparation for the end of the working day the light can slowly adjust to warm and dim to relax users as they prepare to go home.

Lighting retrofit

Retrofittable solutions have never been more important in the lighting industry as they are today. With a reported 80% of the buildings you see today still being here in 2050, the gradual phase out of fluorescent luminaires to LED and the increasing pressure to achieve Net Zero Carbon targets, retro fit projects are becoming increasingly prevalent.

Although to maximise the benefits of the building Asset 360 strategy is to design in the solution in stages 2 and 3 of the RIBA model during a building’s lifecycle, this solution is also retrofittable to enable facilities, estates and building managers a way to utilise the benefits of wireless controls technology and aid the future of their lighting solutions.

Our lighting installation team collaborate with our clients from concept through to commissioning, ensuring not only that you the client are happy with the end result, but also that the install is fit for purpose and delivered within budget.

Our installation service is prompt, hassle free and completed with minimal disruption to your business.

Upon completion, all luminaires and sensors are tested and commissioned with full training given on how to use your selected system. A completion certificate and any necessary electrical certificates are handed over including full specification of all components utilised.

On the road to Net Zero, energy efficiency measures may not grab the headlines as “Clean Energy Innovation”, but energy efficiency is essential, practical and often simple to install.

Upgrading from conventional lighting to LED lighting technology can deliver significant cost savings of up to 80% for a business, according to “BEIS” (Business Energy & Industrial Strategy).

The use of appropriate lighting controls can further boost savings, including daylight linked control, presence detection with occupancy sensors, time switching and flexible manual and remote controls. 

LED’s are one of the simplest changes to make across an estate with pretty much guaranteed financial and environmental benefits that pay back in a reasonably fast time to. The technology is proven and benefits firms’ overall carbon reporting and footprint and provides visible proof that your business is serious about energy efficiency. Anything other than LED lighting for a modern business increasingly looks like a legacy decision.
